
Govt warns citizens about fake Cyber Hero Card online scam
A new online scam has surfaced in Pakistan, prompting authorities to warn citizens against fake Cyber Hero Card offers circulating on social media. According to National CERT, fraudsters are using the name of cyber security to collect personal information and extort money by promising free laptops and cyber security training.
The warning comes after fake social media campaigns began targeting people with misleading registration offers. Officials have urged citizens not to trust such advertisements or share personal information with unverified platforms.
Fake Cyber Hero Card Campaign Exposed
According to National CERT, a social media page operating under the name "Cyber Secure Pakistan" is behind the fraudulent campaign. Officials said the page is reportedly being operated from abroad and is using misleading content to attract innocent citizens.
The fake campaign claims to offer a Cyber Hero Card, cyber security training and free laptops. Authorities said these claims are false and are being used to deceive the public.
Citizens Targeted Through Fake Registration
Officials said scammers are encouraging people to register for the fake Cyber Hero Card by offering attractive incentives. During the registration process, they ask citizens to provide their CNIC numbers and other personal information.
According to National CERT, the collected data may be used for fraudulent purposes. Authorities warned people not to share sensitive personal details through unofficial online forms or social media pages.
Fake Use of Federal Minister’s Identity
National CERT also said the fraudsters are using the name and picture of a federal minister to make the fake campaign appear authentic. Officials said this tactic is intended to gain the public's trust and encourage more people to register.
Citizens have been advised to verify official announcements before responding to any online offers claiming to represent government institutions.
National CERT Issues Public Warning
National CERT has taken notice of the fake posts circulating on various social media platforms. A spokesperson told Samaa TV that the Cyber Hero Card announcement is completely fake and has not been issued by National CERT or any government department.
The spokesperson urged citizens not to register for the fake Cyber Hero Card or free laptop offer. National CERT has also contacted the relevant social media platforms regarding the misleading posts.
Authorities have advised the public to remain cautious while using social media and avoid sharing personal information with unknown or unofficial sources.
