Punjab Boards announce new Inter practical marking policy 2026
Punjab Boards introduce new marking policy for Inter practical exams 2026
The Punjab education boards have introduced a new marking policy for Intermediate Part-II practical examinations 2026, changing the way written practical papers will be assessed. Under the revised system, the written portion of practical examinations will now be checked through a centralized board-level marking process instead of being evaluated by practical examiners at examination centres. The new policy will be implemented from the Inter Part-II Practical Examinations 2026, which are scheduled to begin on 10 July 2026.
The latest changes apply to Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, and Statistics practical examinations. According to the updated policy, students will continue to appear for practical examinations at their assigned centres, but the written answer sheets will no longer be marked there.
Centralized checking introduced for written practical papers
Under the revised evaluation system, practical examiners will only assess students on the practical components conducted at examination centres. The written answer sheets will instead be sent to the respective education boards, where they will be checked through a centralized marking system.
The new process is similar to the existing system used for checking theory examination papers. Officials say the change has been introduced to improve consistency in marking and provide a more transparent evaluation process for students across Punjab.
What will still be evaluated at examination centres?
Although the written portion of practical papers will now be assessed centrally, students will continue to be evaluated at their practical examination centres for several important components.
Practical performance remains part of the assessment
Candidates will still receive marks for:
Laboratory performance
Practical notebooks
Viva voce (oral examination)
Students have been advised to prepare carefully for every part of the practical examination, including written answers, laboratory work, notebooks and viva examinations, as all components will contribute to the final result.
New marks distribution for Inter Part-II practical exams 2026
The Punjab Boards have also announced the revised distribution of marks for each subject under the new policy.
Subject | Practical Performance, Notebook & Viva | Written Answer Sheet | Total Marks |
|---|---|---|---|
Physics | 16 | 14 | 30 |
Chemistry | 14 | 16 | 30 |
Biology | 13 | 17 | 30 |
Computer Science | 26 | 24 | 50 |
Statistics | 20 | 10 | 30 |
The updated marks distribution will apply to all students appearing in the Intermediate Part-II Practical Examinations 2026 under the Punjab education boards.
Aim of the revised marking system
According to the announced policy, the new evaluation method is intended to ensure greater transparency and uniformity in the marking process.
By shifting the assessment of written practical papers from examination centres to centralized board-level checking, the Punjab education boards aim to make the evaluation process more consistent for all candidates.
The BISE Lahore Intermediate Part-II Practical Examinations 2026 are scheduled to begin on 10 July 2026, and the revised marking policy will take effect from the start of the practical examinations.
