Google Maps May Soon Let Users Order Food Using AI
Google Maps could soon allow users to order food directly through AI, according to a new APK teardown report by Android Authority. The report claims that unreleased code inside a recent Google Maps beta version contains a feature labelled "Ask Maps to order food." The discovery suggests Google may be working on deeper integration between Google Maps and its Gemini AI assistant. However, the feature has not been officially confirmed by the company.
An APK teardown typically uncovers features that are still under development, not products that are ready for release. This means Google could change, delay, or completely drop the feature before it ever reaches users.
The feature appears to be part of Google's wider move towards agentic AI — technology designed to complete tasks for users instead of just answering questions. Earlier this year, Google had showcased similar AI abilities across Search, Gemini, and Android at its annual Google I/O developer conference. These tools were shown making bookings, handling online tasks, and assisting with daily planning.
According to the leaked details, any payment made through this feature would still require user confirmation before completion. This is meant to add an extra layer of security to prevent unauthorised purchases.
Google has not confirmed a launch date, or whether the feature will be released at all. Some reports suggest that testing could first begin in the US, before possibly expanding to other regions. There is currently no official word on availability in the UAE.
The leak has also raised questions about privacy, security, and possible subscription requirements. If Google eventually adds more advanced AI actions to Maps, some features could be linked to paid plans such as Gemini Advanced or Google AI subscriptions. However, there is no confirmation that this specific food-ordering feature will require payment.
