Karachi Flour Sellers Agree to Rs8 Per Kg Price Cut

KARACHI: Flour sellers in Karachi have agreed to reduce prices by Rs8 per kilogram following a meeting chaired by Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi. Traders from Jodia Bazaar, atta chakkis and superstores assured the administration that they would implement the revised rates. The commissioner warned that businesses failing to sell flour at government-approved prices could be sealed.

The agreement follows an earlier decision between the Karachi administration and flour mill owners to reduce the ex-mill price of flour by Rs8 per kilogram.

Representatives of the Jodia Bazaar Traders Association and the Karachi Atta Chakki Association said regular flour, fine flour and chakki flour would be sold at reduced prices.

Superstore representatives also assured the administration that the new rates would be followed.

Under the revised pricing structure, the ex-mill flour price will be Rs125 per kilogram, while the retail price will be Rs130 per kilogram.

The price of fine flour has been set at Rs140 per kilogram, while chakki flour will be sold at Rs145 per kilogram.

The commissioner directed all deputy commissioners to strictly enforce the reduced rates in their respective districts.

The meeting also decided to strengthen flour price monitoring. The commissioner said the benefit of the reduction must reach consumers.

Officials from the food department and all deputy commissioners joined the meeting through video link, while the Assistant Commissioner Headquarters was also present.
