
Maryam Nawaz Directs Education Minister to Teach Weekly Class
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat to personally teach one class at a public school every week. The instruction was issued during a special meeting on school education, where several reforms related to enrolment, teacher salaries and institutional registration were reviewed.
The chief minister ordered a review of the digital registration system for private schools. She also sought proposals for registering tuition centres across Punjab and directed officials to prepare a digital mapping mechanism for these centres.
The meeting was informed that the target of enrolling 4.3 million students in public schools had been achieved within two years and four months. Officials described it as the highest genuine enrolment recorded in government schools in recent years.
Maryam Nawaz also made digital payments mandatory for teachers working under the Punjab Education Foundation. Bank accounts will be opened for 138,000 PEF teachers to support the new salary payment system.
Officials briefed the meeting on the Punjab School Reforms Programme and discussed new ways to generate revenue for the education sector. The chief minister directed authorities to prepare a comprehensive plan for innovative revenue generation.
