PAE Proposes Underground Railway Network for Karachi to Ease Traffic Congestion

The Pakistan Academy of Engineering (PAE) has unveiled a visionary plan to construct an underground railway network in Karachi, aimed at tackling severe traffic congestion and addressing the city’s growing transportation demands. The proposal was highlighted during a symposium on underground mobility, which brought together experts from Pakistan, the United States, and China to discuss urban transport solutions.

Two primary routes have been suggested to kickstart the project. The first route stretches from Numaish Chowrangi to Merewether Tower, while the second connects FTC on Sharah E Faisal to I.I. Chundrigarh Road and Tower. Experts believe these routes could significantly reduce travel times, alleviate surface road pressure, and improve overall urban connectivity.

The proposed underground system is expected to complement Karachi’s existing transport networks, support sustainable city development, and contribute to reducing pollution levels.
