Pakistan Announces New E-Passport Fee Structure for 2026

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has announced a revised fee structure for e-passports in 2026 as the government moves from traditional passports towards biometric travel documents. The new system includes updated charges for normal and urgent processing of 36-page and 72-page passports, while cash payments at passport offices across the country have also been discontinued.

An e-passport contains an embedded electronic chip that stores the passport holder’s personal and biometric information. The document complies with standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization.

The new passports also include an NFC chip, laser engraving, infrared security features and ultraviolet protection. Authorities said these measures would make identity verification at airports faster and more secure.

The government said Pakistani travellers with e-passports would be able to use electronic immigration gates at airports around the world, helping reduce waiting times during immigration checks.

Under the revised fee structure, a 36-page e-passport valid for five years will cost Rs9,000 through normal service and Rs15,000 through urgent service.

A 36-page passport valid for 10 years will cost Rs13,500 under normal processing, while urgent processing will cost Rs22,500.

For a 72-page e-passport valid for five years, the normal fee has been fixed at Rs16,500, while the urgent fee will be Rs27,000.

A 72-page passport with 10-year validity will cost Rs24,750 through normal service and Rs40,500 through urgent processing.

Passport offices will no longer accept cash payments. Applicants will be required to pay their fees through the new online and cashless payment system.

Officials said the introduction of e-passports would improve border management, strengthen travel-document security and provide faster services to Pakistani citizens, including those living abroad.
