PPP and PTI Raise Concerns Over Transparency
Although polling remained largely peaceful across the region, both PPP and PTI voiced concerns regarding the electoral process. PPP leaders alleged delays in the issuance of Form-45, an official election document containing polling station results.
PPP Secretary General Nayyar Hussain Bukhari and party spokesperson Shazia Marri claimed that delays in releasing election forms raised questions about transparency. The party also alleged changes to voter lists and polling station locations in certain constituencies.
PTI Alleges Election Irregularities
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) also raised concerns about the election process. The party claimed its supported candidates were leading in several constituencies before what it described as suspicious voting trends emerged later in the evening.
PTI further alleged that polling agents were not provided Form-46 in some locations and demanded immediate transparency in the release of official results. The party called for investigations into reported irregularities and stressed the need for fair electoral practices.
High Voter Participation Across the Region
Election officials reported a peaceful voting atmosphere throughout most districts. According to election authorities, more than 963,000 registered voters were eligible to participate in the elections, including nearly 397,000 female voters.
Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Election Commissioner Raja Shahbaz Khan visited multiple polling stations and praised voter participation, particularly the turnout among women. Authorities maintained tight security throughout polling day with thousands of police personnel deployed across sensitive and highly sensitive polling stations.
What Happens Next?
The current figures remain unofficial and provisional until the Election Commission completes the final consolidation process. Political parties are expected to closely monitor the official announcement, especially amid allegations regarding election transparency.
The final results will determine the formation of the next government in Gilgit-Baltistan and could significantly influence the region’s political direction over the coming years.
