Punjab Restores Lifetime Family Pension for Widows, Daughters

LAHORE: The Punjab government has restored lifetime family pension payments for widows and unmarried daughters of deceased government employees, removing the earlier 10-year limit. The change was approved during a recent provincial cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. Following the decision, the Punjab Finance Department issued a formal notification allowing eligible family members to receive pension payments for life.

Under the previous rules, widows and unmarried daughters could receive a family pension for a maximum of 10 years after the death of a government employee. The latest amendment has removed this restriction.

The revised regulations state that widows and unmarried daughters will remain eligible for the pension throughout their lives. However, pension payments to a widow will stop immediately if she remarries.

If a deceased government employee leaves behind more than one widow, the total pension amount will be divided equally among them, according to the notification.

The provincial government said the decision is intended to provide long-term financial security to the families of deceased government employees and protect them from financial difficulties.
