Sindh Orders Crackdown on Private Schools Charging Extra Fees

KARACHI: The Sindh education department has ordered action against private schools collecting hidden or additional charges from parents beyond approved tuition fees. Schools have been directed to follow the officially approved fee structure, display it clearly on notice boards and provide parents with a copy of the approved tuition fee order when requested. Institutions violating the rules may face regulatory action.

The instructions were issued through a notification by Additional Director of Private Schools Rafia Javed. It said some private institutions were collecting charges beyond the approved tuition fee, which is against the rules.

All private schools across Sindh have been told to charge only the officially approved fees. They must also ensure that students receive the required basic facilities.

The notification warned that schools collecting additional or hidden fees would face action under the relevant regulations.

Unregistered private institutions have been given 15 days to submit their online registration applications.

Schools that fail to meet the required standards will not receive registration certificates. The department said deputy commissioners would be asked to close such institutions, while affected students would be moved to nearby registered schools.
