The Sindh government has launched a new facial recognition attendance system in six districts, including Karachi East, to improve staff attendance monitoring and bring more transparency to the education sector.
The pilot project, called FRAMES (Facial Recognition Attendance Monitoring and Evaluation System), has been introduced to replace traditional attendance methods with a digital system that verifies employees through facial recognition technology.
The system will monitor the attendance of around 49,565 teaching and non-teaching staff members across the selected districts during its first phase.
According to officials, the initiative aims to reduce attendance issues and provide education authorities with accurate digital records for better school management.
Six Districts Selected for the Pilot Phase
The Sindh Education Department has selected six districts from different divisions of the province for the initial rollout of the facial recognition attendance system.
The selected districts include:
Karachi East
Hyderabad
Naushehro Feroze
Ghotki
Jacobabad
Umerkot
The department plans to review the performance of the system in these districts before expanding it to other areas of Sindh.
How Will the Facial Recognition System Work?
The FRAMES system uses artificial intelligence (AI) to verify staff identity through facial recognition.
Teachers and other school employees will register their facial information once, after which the system will automatically verify their identity whenever they mark attendance.
The system also uses location verification to ensure attendance is recorded from the assigned school location, helping reduce fake or proxy attendance.
Digital Attendance and Monitoring System
Unlike manual attendance registers, the new digital system will allow education authorities to maintain real-time attendance records and monitor staff presence more effectively.
The system will also help officials identify attendance-related issues and improve administrative decisions in government schools.
Training and Future Expansion
Before launching the project, the education department provided training to school heads and relevant officials to ensure smooth implementation.
The Sindh government plans to evaluate the results of the pilot phase and gradually expand the system across more districts.
The move is part of Sindh’s broader efforts to introduce technology-based solutions for improving transparency and management in public education institutions.
