Pakistan Air Fares May Rise After Jet Fuel Price Increase

ISLAMABAD: Air passengers in Pakistan may face higher ticket prices after the federal government increased the cost of jet fuel by Rs13.23 per litre. The revised rate has reached Rs251.02 per litre, according to an official notification. Aviation experts expect the increase to raise airline operating expenses, which may eventually be transferred to passengers through more expensive fares.

The latest increase came after the government raised the prices of petroleum products.

Higher jet fuel costs are expected to affect both Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and private airlines operating across the country.

Aviation experts said fuel is an important part of airline operating expenses. The latest price increase is therefore likely to add further pressure on carriers.

They believe airlines may recover the additional costs by increasing fares for passengers travelling on domestic and other routes.
