Pakistani Doctors Surpass Indian Peers in US Residency Match

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani medical graduates have moved ahead of their Indian counterparts in the United States residency match programme, with more than 1,400 doctors from Pakistan selected this year. The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) described the result as a major national achievement and linked the rise in successful placements to improvements in medical education, revised curricula and policies introduced by the council.

PMDC President Professor Dr Rizwan Taj said Indian doctors had traditionally held a stronger position in the American residency programme, but the situation had now changed.

He welcomed the sharp increase in the number of Pakistani doctors gaining residency placements in the United States.

According to Professor Taj, respected international medical institutions are showing greater confidence in the abilities and professional skills of Pakistani healthcare workers.

He said the wide selection of Pakistani doctors was a source of pride and honour for the country.
