PESCO Introduces APMS Smart Meters for Fairer Load Management
DI KHAN: Peshawar Electric Supply Company (**PESCO**) is rapidly installing Advanced Power Management System (APMS) smart meters on distribution transformers connected to the 11kV Muslim Bazar feeder in Dera Ismail Khan. The initiative, launched under Ministry of Energy directives, will allow each transformer to be monitored separately and enable load management only in areas facing low bill recovery, high line losses or reported electricity theft.
The installation campaign is being supervised by PESCO Dera Circle Superintending Engineer Hizbullah Mehsud.
The City Division is implementing the project under Executive Engineer Imran Khan Gandapur, while the Muslim Bazar feeder’s Line Superintendent-I and technical team are overseeing the installation work.
Senior officials from the City-I Sub-Division also visited the site to review progress.
PESCO officials said the smart meters would make it possible to monitor every distribution transformer independently.
Under the new system, power outages will not be imposed across the entire feeder. Load management will instead be limited to locations where electricity bill recovery is low, line losses are high or power theft is reported.
Engineer Hizbullah Mehsud said the system would protect areas with timely bill payments and minimal electricity theft from unnecessary load-shedding.
He added that the initiative would support fairer electricity distribution, improve operational efficiency and strengthen the overall performance of the power distribution network.
