SHC Orders SBCA Officer to Pay Illegal Building Demolition Cost

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court has ordered that the cost of demolishing illegal buildings in Qasba Colony be recovered from the salary of the officer found responsible. The direction came as a constitutional bench reviewed a contempt application against the Sindh Building Control Authority chief and other officials over the failure to fully enforce earlier court orders.

The petitioner’s lawyer told the court that illegal construction continued in Qasba Colony despite clear judicial directions. The lawyer argued that the authorities had not completely implemented the orders.

During the hearing, the government’s counsel said action had been taken in line with the court’s directions and that further proceedings were underway.

The bench then asked who would pay for demolishing the unauthorised structures that had already been completed. The SBCA lawyer failed to provide a satisfactory response.

The court subsequently directed that the demolition expenses be deducted from the salary of the responsible officer. It also stressed that its earlier orders must be strictly followed.

The constitutional bench disposed of the contempt application filed against the SBCA director general and other officials.
