Benjamin Netanyahu’s Son Reportedly Changes Name to Yonatan Hun

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s son, Yair Netanyahu, has reportedly changed his legal name to Yonatan Hun. Tax records reviewed by Israeli newspaper Haaretz showed the new name alongside the same identification number and address details previously linked to Yair Netanyahu. The reported change is believed to have taken place during the past 18 months.

According to the report, tax deduction certificates issued in December 2024 carried the name Yair Netanyahu. Similar records issued this year used the name Yonatan Hun while keeping the same tax identification number and other personal details.

Israeli rules state that a name officially changed on a national identity card cannot be changed back for seven years.

The report said Netanyahu is registered with the Israel Tax Authority and the National Insurance Institute as a self-employed person working in advertising.

While living in Florida, he also reportedly registered a company in Connecticut. The stated purpose of the business was to provide lectures.

Photographs recently posted on his social media account appeared to show that he had undergone cosmetic procedures during the past year, according to the report. No further details about the procedures were provided.

The surname Hun has links to his mother’s family. It was reportedly the original surname of his grandfather, Shmuel, before the family name was changed to Ben-Artzi. Yair had also previously used the name “Yair Hun” on social media.

The report noted that Benjamin Netanyahu used the name Ben Nitai while living in the United States during the 1980s. He previously said the name was easier to pronounce and more suitable while he considered settling in the country.

Yair’s younger brother, Avner Netanyahu, also reportedly changed his name several years ago to Avi Segal. Avner later said the decision was made for security and privacy reasons while he studied in England.
